Diploma of Industrial Design, specialising in Visual Communications and Exhibition Design, RMIT, Melbourne, Victoria, 1969.
Diploma of Film Production, specialising in Animation, London Film School, London, 1973.
Masters Degree in Internet Studies, majoring in Design, Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia, 2009.
The first years of my career were as a designer in the film and television industry, working principally for ABCTV and Crawford Productions in Australia and BBC Television and Yorkshire Television in the United Kingdom, as well as periods of freelance work on vartious television productions, commercials and feature films.
After studying horticulture, I became involved in horticultural media, creating and developing Gardening Australia for ABCTV, a monthly national gardening magazine, for which I was consulting editor for five years. I also wrote a comprehensive handbook on the genus Rhododendron for Kangaroo Press, Sydney, Growing Rhododendrons, which has been out of print for some years now.
This involvement with publishing led to a specialisation in publication design, with a preference
for designing books.
